A pregnancy massage differs from any other type of treatment as there are different trigger points and a level of sensitivity and gentleness that is required by the Therapist. This type of massage also takes into consideration the baby as well.
The massage is carried out in a side-lying position as this maximises the effectiveness of and assists to gain the full benefits of the massage. Side-lying is a more natural position and keeps the hips and pelvis level and the lower back fully supported. Pillows are used throughout the treatment in different positions to assist in supporting the body. This can help to alleviate the extra strain on the lower back and pelvic areas when the pressure of a massage technique is applied.
As the expectant Mum progresses through her pregnancy, LUNA’s massage therapy tables can be tilted/adjusted to accommodate for more comfort while lying down during the massage. This position can avoid any concerns that may happen if lying on the back, while at the same time still enjoying some relaxation massage to the face, hands and feet.
Pregnancy Massage is a useful means of reducing general pregnancy discomfort as it helps with muscle tension, backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and swelling. Massaging can also assist with reducing stress on weight-bearing joints, encourages blood and lymph circulation and helps to relax nervous tension – which can aid in better sleep patterns.
