Cupping is an ancient therapy and its roots can be traced back thousands of years in Egyptian, Chinese and Middle Eastern cultures.
By using a warm cup or vacuum cup, our qualified remedial therapists apply a mild suction to the skin/fascia and muscle on the required areas to promote healing, lengthening and loosening of the muscle fibres. The cup can be 'dragged' to massage desired areas and can be left on the skin for up to 10 minutes. Several cups may be placed at a time to target a larger surface.
At LUNA, we generally incorporate cupping into our Remedial/Deep Tissue massage treatments.
In areas of tissue dysfunction this technique may occasionally leave a temporary mark, called “sha.” Sha resembles a bruise but is not painful. Traditional Chinese Medicine regards the appearance of sha as an indication that toxins and stagnation are being pulled to the surface of the body, restoring healthy qi and blood flow below. These are not bruises as they are not results of trauma.
All discolouration, if any, are temporary. Typically ranging in colour from light pink to dark purple, they can last anywhere between a few hours to 10 days before gradually fading away entirely. No pain or tenderness is usually felt following a cupping treatment, whether or not discolourations appear on the skin.
Had an amazing 60 min massage and 60 min facial. One of the best massages we've ever had. Thank you Luna for your wonderful service. We will be back.
